History of Bethany
Bethany Calvary Church of God in Christ was founded under the name Bethany Pentecostal Fellowship, and affiliated to Calvary Church of God in Christ (COGIC) United Kingdom in 1997.
When Reverend Herald Grant was appointed Pastor on 25th October 1998, he thanked God for the humbling responsibility of leading this aspiring Church. At the Appointment Service, Pastor and First Lady, Beverly Grant cited this verse as their foundation scripture 'Pray for us. We are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to live honourably in every way.' Hebrews 13:18.
In January 2003 Bethany COGIC began reaching out to the community by launching its Drop-In Centre. This facility was formed to bring together members of the general community, an opportunity to meet weekly to socialise, make new friends and learn new skills.
Internationally, Bethany COGIC is a Member of the Church of God in Christ with its Headquarters in Memphis, Tennessee, U.S.A., under the leadership of our International Presiding Bishop, Bishop Charles E. Blake Sr. Nationally, we are a part of the (Calvary) Church of God in Christ United Kingdom Jurisdiction where Bishop Alvin E. Blake is our Jurisdictional Leader.
The Lord is working on behalf of this Ministry where His promises are being realised under the leadership of Pastor Grant. Bethany COGIC is experiencing advancement in every way; as we say with the Prophet Nehemiah, '...I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down...' Nehemiah 6:3. So we intend to work and remain faithful to possess the blessings promised for today.
Our Mission
The mission of Bethany, Church of God Christ, is to bring people into fellowship with God, through loving worship, heart felt praise and dedicated living. We as a body of believers:
- Believe that each person is important in God's Kingdom, none is overlooked.
- Are obligated to the keeping of virtuous Christianity with integrity, Hebrews 12: 11.
- Endeavour to celebrate the joy of the gospel in worship, study, teaching, and the preached Word.
- Have been challenged to identify and serve the needs of our congregation and community.
Statement of Faith
We believe the Bible to be the inspired and only infallible written Word of God
We believe that there is One God, eternally existent in three Persons; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit
We believe in the Blessed Hope, which is the rapture of the Church of God, which is in Christ at His return
We believe that the only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance, faith in the precious Blood of Jesus Christ and being baptised in water.
We believe that regeneration by the Holy Ghost is absolutely essential for personal salvation
We believe that the redemptive work of Christ on the Cross provides healing for the human body in answer to believing in prayer.
We believe the baptism in the Holy Ghost, according to Acts 2:4; is given to believers who ask for it.
We believe in the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling, the Christian is enabled to live a Holy and separated life in this present world.
Amen.
