Giving Back

In 2012 Bethany was inspired to give-back and help a worthy cause.

As part of our outreach effort, members and friends of Bethany hosted a Charity Walk and Gala Dinner in August in aid of The Sickle Cell Society and raised over £2000.00 for the charity.

The Sickle Cell Society is the UK’s leading charity for people affected by Sickle Cell Anaemia. The funds raised are helping to reinstate their Respite Care programme, which gives the parents of sickle sufferers a break, whilst their children are taken out on away days. Apart from the much-needed rest which they receive, parents have often commented on the transformation in their children’s temperament on their return from these breaks.

It is estimated that around a quarter of a million people in England have the sickle cell trait; most of whom have African or Caribbean ancestry. According to NHS research, Sickle Cell Anaemia is the most common genetic disease in England. One baby in every 2000 is born with the condition.

We intend to make our Giving-back programme an annual event. You too can help us by donating. To do so go to the Donate page and follow the instructions.
